For the time being, A-10s will continue to fly over the Treasure Valley, thanks in part to ISIS. According to website Defense One, the Pentagon is putting the brakes on plans to retire the A-10 Warthog because it’s playing a vital role in the air campaign against the terrorist army. City of Boise spokesman Mike Journee says yeah, it’s good news.
“We have a very important mission based out of Gowen Field, and it’s a huge economic development draw for us, and it’s a part of our nation’s national defense,” said Journee. “We’re very excited that it will continue; this is very good news for the short term.”
The website says the Air Force still plans to mothball the A-10 at some point in the future, only it’s not going to happen any time soon. The City of Boise has been working with the Air Force to ensure that whatever plane is picked to replace the Warthog, Gowen Field will play a role in its mission.
