Teenager Survives Crash Into Payette River

A 17 year old girl from Sweet is alive to tell the story of crashing into the Payette River, escaping the water-filled car, swimming to the shore and climbing 42 feet back to the road. It happened Sunday evening just after 6 o'clock near Horseshoe Bend on State Highway 52. The 2005 Chevy Malibu the girl was driving drove too close to the edge of the roadway and the front tire of the vehicle drove off the shoulder of the highway. When she overcorrected, she lost control of the vehicle and it went off the opposite side of the road and down a 42 foot embankment. The car bounced off of boulders on the way down. Its windows shattered. It landed upside down in the river. The girl was able to unbuckle her seatbelt and exit the car through the passenger side window and swim to the shore. She climbed the 42 foot embankment and was finally able to flag down a passing motorist after four vehicles passed her. She wasn't injured in the crash
