The Boise Zoo community is mourning the loss of one of its beloved residents.
CBS2 reports Kabita a 15-year-old snow leopard died after battling with an aggressive oral cancer that does not have a cure.
Kabita was diagnosed with the cancer earlier this year and her care team closely monitored her while she went through several rounds of treatment to help support her overall health.
The Boise Zoo veterinary team worked with oncologists and specialists to provide treatment to Kabita for the tumor.
Despite their efforts, Kabita’s health began to decline and her care team made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Kabita.
Kabita has made Zoo Boise her home since 2011 after being transferred from the Sunset Zoo in Kansas.
In Honor of Kabita Zoo Boise welcomes the public to send or drop off cards to the zoo that will be displayed in her honor.
