Fire near Grandjean closes Highway 21

The Wapiti Fire, burning 2 miles southwest of Grandjean, has continued to spread today and has now burned nearly 10,000 acres, and Highway 21 is closed.

KIVI-TV reports, the fire jumped the ridge of the Sawtooths and spread to the Elk Creek and Stanley Lake Creek drainages.

As a result, fire officials have closed the Stanley Lake recreation complex…including connecting trails.

6 structures have also been lost in the Wapiti Summer Home area.

The U.S. Forest service reports that Highway 21 is closed from milepost 92, the Warm Springs Airstrip, to milepost 107, the Custer/Boise County Line, and there are no exceptions.
