Drivers must comply with school bus stops

As schools across the State prepare for the first day of school, Ada County Highway District is reminding drivers how to operate near school buses.

According to stats from ITD, drivers in Ada County alone in 2023 failed to obey signals 1,981 times, failed to obey stop signs 700 times, followed too close 7,935 times, failed to yield 6,030 times, and improperly changed lanes 2,359 times, according to stats from ITD.

ACHD reminds drivers how to comply with school bus stops.

If there are three or fewer lanes, including the center turn lane, all lanes of traffic must stop for a stopped school bus.

If there are four or more lanes, drivers in the opposite direction may proceed with caution, but drivers in the same direction as the stopped school bus must stop and wait.

This is for the safety of all children boarding and disembarking school buses.
