A Meridian man has been sentenced to prison a year and a half after his driving killed a Treasure Valley teacher and coach.
28 year-old Shawn Stacy, will serve at least two years, and possibly up to 17, for felony vehicular manslaughter.
The Idaho Press reports, Stacy, ran a stop sign “at a high rate of speed” and crashed a pickup carrying Jim and Loma Bittick on Feb. 9, 2023, in Greenleaf.
Following the crash, Loma Bittick died at the hospital.
Her husband suffered life-altering injuries and has faced a long path to recovery.
He had both legs amputated below the knee, and lost eight fingers.
Loma Bittick was the head volleyball coach and assistant girls basketball coach, and also taught math, at Greenleaf Friends Academy.
Jim was the head coach of the girls basketball team.
Stacy has a history of driving violations, including having his license suspended in 2015 and 2016, and has been found guilty dozens of times for numerous violations.
Stacy also received a persistent violator enhancement and will have his driver’s license suspended for 20 years after he is released, with the first year absolute, meaning that he may be eligible for restricted driving privileges one year after his release from prison,
