Troopers with the Idaho State Police arrested 20 drivers for DUI in Ada and Canyon counties over the weekend.
In all, 30 DUI arrests were made between Friday night and early Sunday morning by a multi-agency DUI emphasis patrol.
This was the first weekend of a two-week effort to increase DUI patrols and decrease the number of DUI drivers and crashes.
Trooper Jeffrey Baxter said highway fatalities have increased in Idaho this year and a good percentage of crashes are related to impaired driving.
In addition, the DUI emphasis patrols also resulted in:
- 1 eluding police charge
- 1 felony drug charge
- 11 misdemeanor drug charges
- 2 warrant arrests
- 8 speeding citations
- 8 driver’s license violations, and
- 1 Reckless driving arrest
Increased DUI patrols are in effect statewide and will continue through New Year’s weekend.
