The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage.
It’s blood supply he’s reached to the lowest level in six years.
Matthew Ochsner with American Red Cross explains, blood can’t be manufactured. The only way to get blood is through blood donation.
To date, 10,000 additional blood products are needed each week this month to meet hospital and patients needs.
Although blood supply in hospitals doesn’t pose as an issue right now, some blood types such as type-O has dropped to less than a half-day supply at times.
The Red Cross encourages anyone who is at least 17-years-old and weighs at least 110 pounds to come in and donate.
