CBS2 reports people who are immunocompromised can start scheduling appointments for a third dose of the vaccine at St. Luke’s Monday.
The “booster” shot will be the third injection of either the Moderna or Pfizer mRNA vaccine. The CDC does not recommend those who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine get a third injection at this time.
Although it is recommended the third dose be the same brand as the initial series, doctors say it is not necessary if that brand is not available.
Those who qualify for the third dose include people undergoing treatment for cancer, those who have received an organ or stem cell transplant, and people who have advanced or untreated HIV infection.

St. Luke’s is encouraging people who are interested in receiving a booster shot to schedule an appointment through the myChart app or call 208-381-9000.
A spokesperson for St. Luke’s says they anticipate increased traffic to myChart and in-call volumes to St. Luke’s Clinics and ask people to be patient.
“While the third vaccination is recommended for some people, it is not considered urgent. If someone feels they cannot wait, they can seek their third dose from a commercial pharmacy or other health care organization that is providing safe, effective, free COVID-19 vaccines,” a spokesperson said.
