Senate Republicans plan to hold a virtual closed-door caucus on Friday morning to discuss the possibility of holding a special session to come up with legislation to forbid employer COVID-19 vaccine mandates, along with other issues.
There is some support to hold a special session – but also plenty of lawmakers who do not want a special session.
The Idaho Press reports, of six Nampa legislators who signed on to a joint statement backing legislation to forbid employer COVID-19 vaccine mandates, three say they don’t support a special legislative session on that – but would take up the matter in January when the legislature meets again in 2022.
Under the Idaho Constitution, only the governor can call lawmakers back for a special session. The Constitution also forbids either house from adjourning for more than three days without the concurrence of the other.
The Senate adjourned sine die on May 12; the House simply recessed.
