Declining aquifer causes concern in Mountain Home and Elmore County

We continue to keep a close eye on what is turning into a very big problem for many people in Idaho.

The issue – water – and the lack of it in many areas of the state where drought has taken hold.

Concern over a rapidly declining aquifer continues for Mountain Home and Elmore County.

CBS 2 News reports, the area is losing three to five feet a year – on average – with no dependable water source. That means deeper wells and a higher cost to consumers. Experts also point out – there is no way to replenish that aquifer.

Elmore County is working to curtail water resource concerns with the state of Idaho. Several plans are being considered, many with large price tags attached to it.
