CBS2 reports Central District Health issued an excessive heat advisory Monday while encouraging residents to take caution, look out for one another.
Triple-digit temperatures are expected across central Idaho for the next ten days. CDH’s public health advisory will be in place while temperatures exceed 100 degrees for consecutive days.
People should be particularly wary about heatstroke, heat exhaustion, and heat stresses.
Heatstroke, the most severe, happens when the body becomes unable to control its temperature, according to CDH. The body’s temperature rises rapidly, the body loses its ability to sweat, and it is unable to cool down. Body temperatures rise to 106F or higher within 10 to 15 minutes. Heatstroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not sought.
Seek medical attention if you experience any of these signs or symptoms for heatstroke:
- An extremely high body temperature (above 103F)
- Red, hot, and dry skin (no sweating)
- Rapid, strong pulse
- Throbbing headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
For heat exhaustion, watch out for these:
- Heavy sweating
- Paleness
- Muscle cramps
- Tiredness
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fainting
- Skin: may be cool and moist
- Pulse rate: fast and weak
- Breathing: fast and shallow
