Salvation Army aiming to help low income families have access to health foods

ood insecurity is a big problem for many Ada County families.

The Salvation Army is teaming up with Idaho Blue Cross and Albertsons to make sure low-income families get the healthy foods they need.

It’s all part of a new program called the Client Choice Produce Bag. Families can choose the items that work best for them based on religious, allergy or nutritional needs.

“On this event, we’re excited to be able to let the client choose what fruits and vegetables their family would actually like to eat,” said Stacy Lawrence, events and volunteer coordinator. “So we want to keep people healthy and the best way to do that is to eat a balanced meal.”

The program will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on June 5, July 10, Aug. 7, Sept. 11 and Oct. 2 at the Salvation Army Boise Corps west parking lot on Emerald Street.
