Idaho House Passes Last Rung of Teacher “Career Ladder” Pay Plan

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The Idaho House votes to approve the last rung of the so-called teacher career ladder program, which has raised teacher salaries over the last four years.

Idaho Falls Representative Gary Marshall presented House Bill 153 to the full House, and spelled out how it would boost starting salaries in the next two fiscal years.

“Salaries in the three residency rungs would increase to $38,500, $39,000 and $39,500.” said Marshall.  ” If you look at fiscal year 2021, salaries would be increased to $40,000, $40,500, and $41,000.

Fiscal 2020 starts on July 1st.

Marshall told the House teacher attrition — or those leaving the profession altogether — is 15% in the first year, and 30% after four years.

House Bill 153 passed the House 61-9, and now goes to the Senate.
