Boise (670 KBOI News) – With all we’ve been hearing about the tight housing and rental markets in the Treasure Valley, this may come as a surprise to many folks…we’re actually one of the best places in the nation for renters.
That’s according to personal finance website Wallet Hub. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says Boise is the 14th best market for renters, with Nampa coming in at number 62.
“Cost of living definitely helps here, the rent-to-price ratio is a little bit better in Boise as well,” said Gonzalez. “Even things like renters’ insurance, which I don’t think people think of at first, you know, they kinda just look at the list price. So it’s the little things that you really have to include here.”
She says what’s hurting us is a lack of rental inventory, which many people know first hand.
She says other cities, like Portland and Nashville, never stopped building apartments and condos during the recession, and Boise did, so it’s now having to play catch-up.
