Boise (670 KBOI News) – As Boise grows, so does its homeless population. Of that homeless population, nearly 15% of them are veterans.
So Diana Lachiondo with the City of Boise says they and other groups want to do something to get some of those veterans off the streets, and get them the medical and mental health care they need.
“We are partnering with the Idaho Housing Finance Association, and they have done a set-aside of tax credits to fund a veterans housing development,” said Lachiondo. “The City of Boise is joining up in that effort, and we have set aside both General Funds and some federal funds.”
The housing complex would consist of 25-30 apartments, to house single veterans and those with families.
No site has been chosen, but Lachiondo says it would been to be either adjacent to the VA campus, or on a bus line.
