Robert Coy Sentenced for Shooting at Ada County Sheriff’s Deputies

Bryan Coy must spend at least seven years in prison before he can ask for parole for shooting at Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

In March, three deputies went to a home on West Granger to serve an arrest warrant on Robert Coy — Bryan’s father — for a felony charge of falsifying documents. Robert Coy resisted arrest, and while deputies were in the process of handcuffing him, Bryan Coy suddenly fired a pistol at the officers. Deputies returned fire, hitting Bryan Coy.

The deputies were not injured, but might have been. Tests later revealed that Coy was only able to shoot one bullet because his gun jammed – but attempted to fire several more rounds before he was shot.

Coy was sentenced to serve three 10-year prison terms – one for each felony count of assault or battery on law enforcement personnel.
