Camping In Idaho Trip #1

I used to really enjoy tent camping when I was younger.  It’s been at least 10 years since I broke out the tent, sleeping bags and bug spray and set out on a weekend adventure.  This time, I had the chance to take my boys along for our first offical camping trip in Idaho.  It was long overdue, and won’t be the last.

We set out for Willow Creek Campground, and the North Fork of the Boise River on Friday evening 7/24/15.  The road was a little on the long and bumpy side, but far from the worst dirt road I’ve ever driven.

The campground was excellent, and I reccomend it for people who enjoy tent camping. The spaces all had picnic tables and fire rings and a breat view of the river.  The campground was perfect for people looking for a decent place to swim and/or fish.  Warning: It’s not for people who pull trailers or drive RV’s and no running water or electricity is available.

Sadly, I was skunked with my fly rod after fishing the better part of Saturday along the river and seeing fish rise.  Others did catch fish, which let’s you know how good I a fisherman I am.

The stars were bright, other campers were not too noisy, and my boys enjoyed being there.

I would like to say thanks to the guys at Twin Springs Resort, who allowed me to use the telephone and were very nice to my boys.  If you have the chance, visit them, just 5 miles or so away from Willow Creek Campground.  They have a unique liitle shop where you can grab a cold beer, play a game of pool, or buy those last minute camping essential items.
