Every once in awhile the stars align and the planets are all in sync, and things just go your way. That happened to me Thursday, and Saturday of last week. The Boise State Broncos committed five turnovers, but somehow still managed to put away Brigham Young University 28-27 at Albertson’s Stadium. The same night John Lester handcuffed the Los Angeles Dodgers to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead in the National League Championship Series in Major League Baseball. Friday was just an average day with nothing special going on, slept most of the day because of the lack of sleep on Thursday night.
Still had a bit of a football hangover on Saturday morning, but things quickly started to happen. The Houston Cougars, the poll leader in the group of five ahead of Boise State, got stomped by Southern Methodist. SMU entered that game at 2-4 and winless in the American Confrence. All of a sudden the Broncos are in control of their own destiny for a major bowl game.
While SMU was upsetting Houston Kyle Hendricks, the Chicago Cubs young star, completely outpitched the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw, who, according to almost everyone, was almost invincible. The win sent the Cubs to the World Series for the first time since I was three years old. What a magnificent day. Oh, and Washington State beat Arizona State in football and is now the 2th top vote getter on both major polls. Tha ranking will surely help Boise State’s strength of schedule.
I know, I know, the Bears, my favorite NFL team, got murdered by Green Bay Thursday night. I guess lucky stars, aligned planets and good karma can only do so much.
