Random Thoughts of a News and Sports Junkie: Election 2016

Several times I have sat down to write this latest blog, and each time I have punted.  You see, the election is approaching, and for those of us who work in the newsroom, it is all consuming.  If you don”t believe me, have a look at Twitter or Facebook and count how many Presidential stories come your way.  Why is that a problem?  Because I don’t want to write the 500th political story you have seen today, or try to convince you how to vote. (You are welcome)  So, what to write about?..  How about a round about political story without any politicians in it?  Here we go.

Here is what I need: I need somebody to start inventing ways for our insurance costs to come down.  I have insurance and can’t afford to use it.  It’s a pretty amazing feeling to be forced to pay for something I honestly can’t afford to use.

Here is what I need:  I need Entertainment TV Programs to never be involved in talking about the Presidential Candidates.  They are politicians, not movie stars.  Move along, nothing to see here.

Here is what I need:  I need some people to have a little more compassion for others who have less than they do, instead of malice.

Here is what I need:  I need my friends and family to stop being so worried about who I choose to vote for.  I don’t need your advise, and I did not ask for it.  Voting is a personal decision, and I’m very comfortable with my own moral compass.

Here is what I need:  I need to be a better role model for my kids, because traditional role models are just not living up to the billing.  (Sports Figures/Presidential Candidates)  They may not want to be looked up to by millions of kids, but personally, I think it should be written into the contract.

Here is what I need:  I need a more civil conversation to take place in this country where issues take center stage instead of ego and spin.

Here is what I need:  I need less people asking me to contribute to a political fund, and more campaigns calling me because they want to know what I think.

Here is what I need:  I need candidates that are more worried about reaching across the isle to find common ground and less worried about how the “party” will feel about it.

I’ll vote for my candidate on November 8th.  I hope you do too.
