Lori Vallow Daybell wants mental competency evaluation in Arizona murder trial

Lori Vallow Daybell’s defense lawyer filed a motion on Oct. 9 for a Rule 11 “Mental competency” evaluation, this is in connection with her murder trial in Arizona.

CBS2 reports that according to the Maricopa County Superior Court’s website under Rule 11, if the defendant is found competent, they return to the trial court.

If found incompetent but restorable, they will receive treatment in a “Restoration-to-competency” or outpatient treatment program.

However, if the defendant is deemed incompetent and not restorable within the statutory time limits, civil commitment may be pursued, leading to evaluation, treatment and dismissal of criminal charges.
