The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office is leading an investigation into an officer-involved shooting incident involving Idaho State Police troopers near Mountain Home.
In a news release, Idaho State Police says shortly after midnight on September 9, a trooper near milepost 172 on I-84 in Jerome County observed a Honda Accord traveling westbound at a high rate of speed.
CBS2 reports a second trooper spotted the same vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
When the driver failed to stop, both troopers followed the Honda westbound.
During the pursuit, troopers say the Honda was driven recklessly at high speeds.
At milepost 98, spike strips were successfully deployed and the Honda came to a stop.
Troopers gave verbal commands to the male driver.
During the attempted arrest, shots were fired, and the driver was struck and died from his injuries.
The Elmore County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death and will release the individual’s identity after proper notification.
