Wapati Fire grows near Stanley

The Wapiti Fire has grown to 35,635 acres as of Friday, and has spread east to Stanley Lake which triggered a “go now” evacuation order as of Friday morning in Zone 1…which includes western Stanley.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports, the zone includes hundreds of homes in the Stanley Basin, Iron Creek, Crooked Creek Ranch, Homestead and Thompson Creek Ranch subdivisions and along Cow Camp Road.

Zone 2, which includes the remaining Stanley area, was under a “be set” to evacuate order.

The growing fire recently prompted highway closures on both Highway 17 and 21.

Highway 17 is closed from milepost 14 to Lowman, close to hot springs campground.

Highway 21 remains closed from milepost 84 to Stanley.
