Greenbelt safety concerns discussed

The Ada County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing Tuesday evening to discuss the future of the Greenbelt, focusing on safety concerns due to increased foot traffic and the rise of electronic vehicles.

CBS2 reports residents gathered at the Ada County Courthouse to voice their opinions on how best to protect the 42-mile Greenbelt, which is managed by multiple jurisdictions, including Ada County, Boise, Eagle, Garden City, and Star.

Many attendees expressed concerns about the safety of the pathway, particularly regarding the use of e-bikes and e-scooters.

The board was presented with a new safety proposal that seeks to establish uniform rules for all Greenbelt users.

Community members who spoke at the meeting unanimously agreed that action is needed to ensure the safety of all Greenbelt users. Many advocated for increased signage urging riders to slow down or even for the outright ban of electronic vehicles on the pathway.

The Board of Commissioners is expected to update the county code in the coming months.|
