Federal money for Idaho water conservation

Four water conservation projects in Idaho are set to receive $7.2 million in federal funds.

The funding is part of around $105 million for 67 projects announced in a Monday news release by the U.S. Department of Interior.

The Bureau of Reclamation estimates the projects, in around a dozen mostly Western states, will save over 111,000 acre-feet of water each year, which is around a year’s supply for 447,000 people.

The Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner said as we work to counter the impacts of drought and climate change, we must embrace opportunities to increase water and energy efficiency wherever possible.

The Commissioner continued, the president’s Investing in America agenda provides the resources to expand these conservation efforts that include canal lining, meter installation, conservation incentives, and gate automation.
