A new 5.7-mile trail will be constructed in the Hawkins Range Reserve — a previously inaccessible area in the Boise Foothills off Bogus Basin Road.
The City of Boise and Ridge to Rivers says the Hawkins Loop Trail will be managed as a one-way directional trail for runners, hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers.
The property was protected in 2015 with the city’s purchase of land previously owned by the Hawkins family, the Berry family and other properties owned by the Idaho Humane Society.
Hawkins Range Reserve and all trail access will be closed seasonally from November to March to protect critical habitats and important wildlife corridors for the animals who call the foothills home.
The cost is expected to cost a little over $1 million. If approved by the city council, construction could start later this year.
