The number of hate groups in Idaho has almost halved since 2017, but hate crime incidents continue to increase in the state.
Fifty-four hate crimes were reported to law enforcement in the state in 2020, according to the most recent data reported from the Uniform Crime Reporting Program.
The Idaho Statesman reports, the 54 crimes reported in Idaho in 2020 is a 42% increase from 2019’s total of 38 and a 108% increase from 2018’s total of 26.
Of those 54 crimes, 19 were racially motivated and 14 of those were against African Americans.
The Boise Police Department reported by far the most hate crimes in 2020, reporting 20 incidents throughout Ada and Canyon County.
