Ridge to Rivers asks hikers to stay off muddy trails

Ridge to Rivers says the Boise Foothills are seeing a lot of damage at trailheads and in popular reserves… from high use.

Ridge to Rivers says even all-weather trails are often too wet for responsible use this week, unless you can get out first thing in the morning when the trails are still frozen.

This damage happens because as trails grow muddier, people end up walking over vegetation to avoid the mud, widening and eroding the trails. People are also more prone to damage drainage structures put in by trail crews when they walk along muddy paths.

Ridge to Rivers asks that people give the trails a break and use the Boise River Greenbelt until the trails can dry out.
