The Meridian Police Department has arrested a 16-year-old suspect for written threats found on a bathroom stall at Meridian High School.
On Feb. 11, the police were made aware of vandalism on a bathroom stall at Meridian High School which threatened a school shooting that would take place on February 14, 2022.
CBS 2 News reports, on Sunday, police arrested a 16-year-old student suspected of writing a threatening message on the bathroom stall.
“Meridian Police Department thoroughly investigates all threats and asks that parents talk with their children regarding the seriousness of threats made against schools and the consequences involved. Each threat takes significant resources away from potential emergencies, causes unnecessary community panic, and can lead to serious consequences for those involved,” the department said in a press release.
The Meridian Police Department said they will have an increased presence at Meridian High School on Monday and will continue to monitor the overall situation.
Police says the suspect has been charged with one count Misdemeanor Deadly or Dangerous Weapon: Threat of Violence by Word or Electronic Means.
Due to the age of the suspect, their name will not be released.
“Meridian Police Department would like to thank Meridian High School and West Ada School District for their assistance with the investigation and continued partnership in keeping our schools safe,” police said in a press release.
