ABOUT SANTA CLARA: The Broncos are 7-4, after starting the season 5-0. The quick start included a 96-74 win against Nevada. Santa Clara is 1-1 this year against Mountain West opponents, suffering its first loss of the season against Fresno State. Junior guard Jalen Williams is the second-leading scorer in the WCC and 27th in the nation at 19.5 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Santa Clara leads the all-time series 4-0. The teams met four times between 1979 and 1989, playing two home games each. The last meeting was Dec. 1, 1989 in Santa Clara. The last meeting in Boise was Jan. 7, 1989.
DEGENHART HONORED:Tyson Degenhart was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week Monday, after helping the Broncos to a pair of wins last week. Degenhart averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in victories over CSUN and Prairie View A&M. With 21 points in a road win against CSUN, he became the 12th Bronco freshman to record a 20-point game and the first to do so on the road since Anthony Drmic in 2011.
SHOE AND COAT DRIVE: Boise State football head coach Andy Avalos, his wife Summer and daughters Paityn and Paige are sponsoring the inaugural Avalos Family Christmas Drive, an initiative to bring shoes and warm coats to Treasure Valley youth in need. The first collection point will be Tuesday, at ExtraMile Arena, in advance of the men’s basketball game against Santa Clara. Fans who contribute items to the drive will receive a game ticket for $5. Collection begins at 6 p.m. at each entrance to the arena.
