Boise starts improvements in water infrastructure

The City of Boise has received $272 million in “very low interest” funding to make critical improvements in the city’s water infrastructure.

The city is receiving the loan from the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act program.

Boise Mayor Lauren McLean said Boiseans overwhelmingly approved the Water Renewal Bond with more than 80% of the vote.

The City of Boise promised a yes vote would keep rates affordable, keep our water renewable, keep the Boise River clean, and keep our water supply resilient.

The city said over the next few months, city staff will work to finalize paperwork with the Environmental Protection Agency and then will come to city council with a list of projects they expect to finance.

CBS2 reports the projects include launching a new recycled water program to diversify local water resources and combat the impacts of climate change;

Repairing and replacing aging infrastructure, which has already started at the Lander Street Facility; and

Enhancing the health and quality of the Boise River through innovative instream improvements.
