Detectives have identified four teens who they say started the 441-acre Goose Fire in Eagle.
After the fire started, a combination of high winds, low moisture and dried vegetation created a massive blaze that spread quickly along an Eagle hillside. At one point, officials had 30 trucks and a helicopter working to contain the flames, and about a dozen people were asked to evacuate.
Investigators had previously determined that the fire was likely started by fireworks. After that, police quickly got reports of kids setting off fireworks in the area right before the fire.
CBS2 reports Police were able to identify the culprits based on tips from the public. They determined that a 15-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and two 16-year-old boys were responsible. According to Idaho law, these teens could face a misdemeanor charge for carelessly lighting prairie land on fire and then leaving before the flames went out.
Police say they’ve talked with the teens and sent evidence to the Ada County prosecutors who will decide whether or not to file charges.
