West Ada School District trustees vote to approve a mask mandate but parents can opt out

The West Ada School District board of trustees late Tuesday voted to approve a mask mandate for students and staff but will allow parents to opt-out of the requirement.

The decision came after a lengthy meeting with local doctors, an update from the superintendent and roughly 90 minutes worth of testimony from students, teachers and other members of the community.

CBS 2 News reports, the board also opted to update its quarantine policy for things such as classroom exposure.

Students return for the first day of school on Thursday in the West Ada School District.
