Lightening sparks 10 new fires across Boise National Forest

Thunderstorms across the Boise National Forest starting Thursday, 7/28, and continuing through the weekend ignited 10 wildland fires. Of these new starts, four have been called out and two are contained, all were reported at 0.1 acres.

The largest of these fires is the Deer Fire reported Thursday and located 12 miles NE of Boise. The fire has burned 856 acres and is 88 percent contained.

The Johnson Fire was reported today two and half miles south of Yellow Pine, Idaho. Currently it is a tenth of an acre, ground resources are using full suppression methods to contain the blaze.

The Timber Fire and Wash Fire were also reported today in the Alder Creek area near Garden Valley, Idaho. Both fires are estimated at 0.1 acres. Fire officials are awaiting updates as crews are making quick work to contain these fires.

Fire lookouts, air detection flights, and available fire resources are watching closely for any new fires as fuels dry lightening holdovers may flare up.

Fire managers remind visitors that despite the rain, fuels are still very dry, and the Forest remains in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Given the drought conditions, Forest officials ask the public to be extremely careful and Know Before You Go.
