Dixie Fire grows to over 15,300 acres

It’s hot and dry – and when you add a little wind – you have a recipe for really bad fires.

The National Interagency Fire Center, based in Boise, says seven fires are currently burning across Idaho. Not one of those fires are contained at this time.

As of late Monday morning, The biggest fire currently burning in Idaho is the Dixie Fire, which is now over 15,300 acres and growing. 417 fire personnel are on scene 40 miles southeast of Grangeville, and 15 miles south of Elk City, near the community of Dixie.

West of the Dixie Fire is the Jumbo Fire, which is roughly 900 acres in size. Evacuation orders remain in place for residents living in the Dixie and Comstock area.

More than 24,000 acres near Lewiston, Idaho have burned as part of the Snake River Complex Fire.

The other fires are all still fairly small. We will continue to monitor those fires thru the week and post more information on our website, KBOI.com.
