The Idaho State Board of Education to hold special meeting Monday

The Idaho State Board of Education will hold a virtual special Board meeting on Monday, June 28, 2021, starting at 4 p.m. (MDT).

The Board will hear a first reading of a draft public higher education Board policy defining Diversity, Educational Equity and Inclusion that includes standards for safeguarding academic freedom, freedom of expression, fostering belonging and to promoting awareness of differing viewpoints on campus.

Final consideration of the draft policy will occur at the regular Board meeting in August. If approved, it would apply to Idaho’s public four-year institutions.

According to the Idaho State Board of Education news release, the draft policy was developed in response to recent unfounded allegations of systematic indoctrination occurring on Idaho campuses.

The meeting agenda is posted on the State Board of Education website: https://boardofed.idaho.gov/event/special-board-meeting-boise-36/

The meeting will be carried via livestream on the State Board’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7j4VGGyNzPa6g6a-zVTHnA
