Baby penguin hatched at Zoo Boise

Magellanic penguin hatched at Zoo Boise in May and a picture was released on Friday.

The chick hatched at the zoo on May 21 to parents Jimmy and Rose. It currently weighs over three pounds.

This is Jimmy and Rose’s second chick. Their first offspring, Milo, hatched at the zoo in 2020.

Jimmy has been a Zoo Boise resident since 2008 and lived at the San Francisco Zoo before that. Rose joined Zoo Boise two years ago from Sea World San Diego.

Jimmy, Rose and the new chick have moved into a temporary nursery inside the Penguin Pavilion. Guests will be able to view the chick through small openings in the nursery window.

Zoo Boise has turned the act of visiting the zoo into conservation action. Since 2007, the zoo has generated over $3 million towards conservation efforts and is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums.
