The Ada County Commissioners voted Wednesday to provide $12 million in property tax relief for residents.
Ada County Clerk Phil McGrane, who is also the county’s chief financial officer, recommended $8 million in property tax relief for the county’s FY22 budget.
CBS2 reports the county budgeted revenues conservatively last year because of the expected impact of Covid-19 on the economy and fear of a downturn.
McGrane said instead Ada County saw a huge increase in sales tax revenues which can be used now to offset property tax relief.
The $12 million decision was made during budget deliberations which began Monday and will continue through Friday.
