The Ada County Sheriff’s Office has a new leader, at least for now, on an interim basis.
Officials with the sheriff’s office says chief deputy Scott Johnson is now acting Ada County Sheriff following the surprise retirement of Steve Bartlett, who was appointed to the position in 2015 and then elected in 2016, and 2020.
Johnson will be in this role until the Ada County Republican central committee will select as many as three candidates to replace Bartlett. It will then be up to the Board of Commissioners to choose a replacement.
Bartlett announced his retirement in an email to staff, and a spokesperson for the department said Bartlett’s decision “was not expected.”
