On Friday night shortly before 8:30 officers responded to the area of S. Valley Ave. and W Blackmoor St. for a report of a possible impaired driver. Witnesses saw a vehicle strike a barrier, fail to stay in one lane, and drive through someone’s yard. Officers made contact with the suspect, Jonathan King, who was parked and seated in the driver seat with the engine running. The officer who first contacted King observed signs of intoxication and physical evidence of alcohol consumption in the vehicle. The officer opened the passenger door to the vehicle and attempted and turn the engine off when King became uncooperative and refused to do so. King suddenly drove in reverse, striking a tree before driving away. As King drove away, the officer stepped out of the way but was hit by the passenger door. Multiple officers worked to contain the situation to avoid any further danger to the public. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, King drove through a fence and struck a tree. King was removed from the vehicle, taken into custody, and booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.
This holiday weekend was the start of the 100 Deadliest Days and between Friday and Monday BPD made 19 DUI arrests. Most of those arrests came on Sunday and Monday. Our Night STEP team and patrol officers were conducting increased patrols throughout the area to keep an eye out for impaired drivers. Throughout the summer BPD is teaming up with the Office of Highway Safety and agencies across the Treasure Valley to reduce the number of impaired and distracted drivers on the roadway through education and strict enforcement.
