Oregon counties vote to become part of Idaho

Five counties in eastern Oregon voted to become a part of Idaho on Tuesday. It’s the first step in a long process to move the Oregon/Idaho border to extend Idaho’s jurisdiction over rural, conservative counties of eastern and southern Oregon.

Those counties are: Sherman, Lake, Grant, Baker, and Malheur counties.

The group – Greater Idaho – says Idaho governor Brad Little and the leadership of both houses of the Idaho legislature support the border relocation.

In terms of how likely it is that the border change is successful, not very likely. The border change would have to be approved by both state governments and the U.S. Congress.
