Idaho’s Senators Weigh in on Mueller Report

Washington DC (670 KBOI News) – Idaho Senator Mike Crapo says now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has  concluded his investigation into alleged collusion between President Trump and the Russians, it’s time to move on and start getting business done for the American people.

“I’ve repeatedly said this investigation needs to come to a conclusion, without interference from either side of the political aisle,” said Crapo.  “Now that Special Counsel Mueller has released his report, he states clearly that the investigation did not establish members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government, in its election interference activities.”

But Crapo also says we shouldn’t let our guard down when it comes to the Russians.

He says they are trying to sabotage our elections and our economy, and their military moves in Venezuela, Syria and elsewhere shows they’re as dangerous as they’ve ever been.

Senator Jim Risch is also on the list of people who weren’t surprised by the Mueller investigation’s conclusion.

He says it was nothing he didn’t already know.

“I looked at I don’t know how many thousands of documents, the interviews with the dozens and dozens of people that our staff on the Senate Intelligence Committee dealt with, and we reached the same conclusion, but quite some time ago,” said Risch.  “I was a prosecutor.  I know what evidence looks like. There’s no evidence here…it’s none, zero, zip.”

Risch says the voting in the 2020 election will be as secure as it can be, but he’s sure the Russians will try to meddle with it, just as they did in 2016.

But he says due to our open society, there’s nothing really to stop them from posting disinformation or propaganda on social media…you just have to be diligent enough to know the difference between fake news and the truth.
