Boise (670 KBOI News) – Bounty hunting is an unregulated industry in Idaho, but under a bill headed to the Senate floor, that would change.
The Idaho Press is reporting Senate Bill 1110 cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously.
It would make it mandatory for all bounty hunters be 18 years old, carry identification as bounty hunters, and for them to notify law enforcement before going in to make an arrest. They also would not be allowed to impersonate law enforcement officers.
This comes a week after two bounty hunters were given a year of probation after they made an arrest in 2018, while posing as law enforcement officers.
It turned out, there was no warrant issued for the man they arrested.
Canyon County Sheriff Keiran Donahue spoke out in favor of the bill, saying it was time the matter was put to rest.
The bill is supported by the Idaho Bail Coalition.
