Boise (670 KBOI News) – Nearly 400 Idaho students of a couple of mostly online colleges will get some debt relief in a settlement agreement with the state.
It’s part of a national settlement between Career Education Corporation, an Illinois-based for profit education company, and about 180,000 students nationwide.
Career Education Corporation will waive student loan debts totaling nearly $500 million.
The suit was filed in 2014, charging CEC with using deceptive practices and making false promises to students about job placement rates…as a result, many students were not able to get professional certifications, and racked up staggering debts.
In Idaho, CEC offered mostly online courses through American InterContinental University, and Colorado Technical University.
