Funds Diverted After 2014 Fire Bond Helps Build West Boise Park

Boise (670 KBOI News) – West Boise has a new dog and people park, thanks in part to the 2014 Fire Bond.

The ribbon was cut Wednesday on Pine Grove Park, near Maple Grove and Shoup Avenue.

The four acre park has a fenced off-leash area for dogs, a restroom, and an open play area.

Parks and Rec Director Doug Holloway says the City has owned the property for 24 years, but after voters passed the fire bond, they were able to put money into building parks.

“That’s really a goal of Mayor (Dave) Bieter from probably 3 or 4 years ago, that he  really wanted to start figuring out a way that we could get some of those parks done,” said Holloway.  “Part of this had come from when the Fire Bond was approved a few years ago.  Then money was diverted to getting a couple of parks off the ground.”

The $17 million fire bond passed with 75% of the vote in 2014…we told you recently that the actual cost of the five projects that bond was supposed to fund, could be twice that amount…$34 million.

670 KBOI News has reached out to the City for comment on the diversion of funds, but as yet we’ve not heard back.
