Washington DC (670 KBOI News) – Idaho Senator Mike Crapo is pleased with President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace the retiring Supreme Court Justice, Anthony Kennedy.
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Crapo will be front and center in the confirmation process, because before Kavanaugh can get a floor vote, he has to pass muster with the committee.
“Judge Kavanaugh has a strong background of legal experience and knowledge, and I congratulate him on this high honor” said Crapo. “I take seriously my Constitutional responsibility to thoroughly review this nomination.”
In his acceptance speech Tuesday night, Kavanaugh said it’s not the job of a judge — or a Supreme Court Justice — to make law from the bench, but to apply the law that’s already written.
Opposition began almost as soon as Kavanaugh was announced. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued a statement saying he would oppose Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
