Final Defendant in Lake Lowell Killing Sentenced

The 4th and final defendant in the Lake Lowell killing of gay man has been sentenced.

Daniel Henkel of Wilder has been sentenced to at least 4 and up to 20 years in prison for his role in the death of Steven Nelson.

The Idaho Statesman reports Henkle pleaded pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of felony aiding and abetting robbery for his cooperation in prosecuting the two primary suspects who planned and carried out the robbery and murder of Nelson.

A Third District Judge denied a plea deal that would have put Henkel in a prison-based treatment and evaluation program.

Henkel must also serve 3 to 7 years for violating his probation on a separate 2015 drug conviction.
