I am a child of the 80’s.
You know, the 1980’s, when we celebrated Big Hair bands, video games, huge Summer Blockbusters and mix tapes.
Here is how much of a child of the 80’s I am: Once, I bet my older brother I could beat him at “Combat” on the Atari 2600, and in doing so, my reward was he had to let me join his Dungeons and Dragons group. I don’t know why, but I still remember his “character” was a fighter/magic user he named, Gumby the Thrasher. No lie. It happened.
For those of you who can relate, I would like to turn you on to a book I recently read. It’s called “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. It’s good and absolutely loaded with 80’s references and material. The book was released in 2011, so I can’t tell you what took so long for me to find this. I read everything I can get my hands on, including Cline’s second book “Armada.”
Steven Spielberg has already started turning it into a Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller. IMDb has even named it one of the can’t miss movies of 2018.
Why am I telling you this now? I remember another book I REALLY liked before it became a screenplay, and then did not really care for the movie starring Brad Pitt. That book was Moneyball.
I’m hoping Ready Player One sticks to the story a little better than Moneyball did.
So, fellow child of the 80’s… Go pick up Ready Player One now, and read it before the adapted version comes out.
