President Trump’s first week in office is as interesting a first week as I can ever remember for a new President. While many ease into the job, President Trump came out swinging for the fence. Or should I say Wall…. OK seriously, it’s freaking some people out how fast the POTUS is looking to fulfill his campaign promises.
My Mom always wanted me to eat more veggies, but it never took hold. Maybe it’s a good thing because I don’t want to pay double or more for stuff you find in the produce isle. Consider for a moment how much agriculture means to a state like Idaho. Now consider how reliant agriculture is on migrant workers being in the field. A southern border wall could have an effect on getting those low wage workers to the fields. When low wage workers are not available, you have to pay more for workers…then you raise the cost of the crop that is sold to sotes…then the stores pass the rising cost to you. Simple economics.
Remember, I’m a News Director. I get concerned when anyone, including the President tries to control the free flow of information. So, no, I am not happy with the lid that has been put on NASA and the EPA. This is not my attempt to be pro or against global warming. This is about getting information from the people who are experts in that field.
I would like to vent about High School Sports for a moment. When I was in high school, I participated in two sports, Football and Baseball. I have a son who plays two sports, Baseball and Basketball. Being able to watch him to play is a thrill for me, and I imagine it was for my dad too, who was also a two sport athlete. The difference is, my dad and my grandparents did not have to pay for anyone to play like parents are expected to today. Ask a local parent of a high school student what they had to pay, and you might be SHOCKED by what it cost. It’s too expensive, and I think the high cost is keeping some parents from allowing their child to play. That is a tragedy.
I will not have any football to watch this weekend. The Pro Bowl does not count. By the way, if you are betting on the Pro Bowl, you have a gambling problem. Just sayin…
