We have been listening and watching the ugliest Presidential race of my lifetime. I say that as a fact, because to me, it absolutely was frighteningly ugly. However, I do have some good news to share. I finally cast my ballot. Please do not ask to whom I voted for. I do not wish to be rude, but it is none of your business who I voted for. I think a better question is: Did you Vote? Let that be the big question between you and others, and why others did not.
AND THAT is my final word on the 2016 election. (Amen.)
Halloween has nearly –NOTE, I said nearly — replaced Thanksgiving as my favorite “spend the day with my family at home” holiday. My girls are still young enough to Trick or Treat, and while I don’t go crazy dressing up, it’s a fun day. Even if you have to work, people often come to the office in costume. It’s just a silly and fun day you can enjoy just as much as kids do. Good Times.
One more Halloween note: If your office does not offer candy at the front desk, you need to find a new place to work.
Here is why Thanksgiving is the best holiday. First, it revolves around food. (Elimination of Easter as favorite) Second, football is on TV all day, meaning there is no part of the day that sucks. (Eliminating any Holiday between February and September) Third, there is no point where you have to spend crazy amounts of money buying things for other people. (thus eliminating Birthdays and Christmas as favorites) Lastly, while some feel the need to host, you don’t have to hold this event in your own home. (Draw you own conclusions as to why that rules!) Big deal: Football All Day: allows for simple conversations to take place that most people can relate to without stepping in the volatile conversation black hole. (See Election Notes Above) Alcohol can increase the likelihood of disaster.
Christmas decorations are out just about everywhere now you might spend money. It’s the constant reminder of how little money I have, and why my credit card company stays in business. Christmas decorations are also a reminder of my fatherly (and husbandly) responsibility to put lights on everything inside and outside the house. WORD TO THE WISE: DO THIS BEFORE IT GETS COLD AND ICY.
A few notes on football season, both College and Pro.
Boise State needs to take a look at what Jim Harbaugh is doing at Michigan. They are tough, play great defense that forces turnovers, and they run the football. The result is; less turnovers, higher number of minutes controlling the clock, controlling the tempo of the game. The Broncos have seen what happens when you throw too much.
I have often been ridiculed for being an Oakland Raiders fan. Not that my team did not deserve some serious ripping at the end of the Al Davis era. The Raiders look like they finally turned the corner in beating Denver on Sunday Night Football. Without question, that was the biggest game in Oakland since the 2002 AFC Championship game. So really what I’m saying is, for the last 14 years I have been cussin’ my TV out every Sunday. I’m in a better place when my team plays well.
